Bonfire's Night, Kenny and Birthday Cakes :)

Well where to start....

Firstly, It's been a few days since Bonfire Night and I have just managed to get on here to share the cupcakes I created for this year. I am especially proud of the firework cupcakes made with popping candy in and on the butter cream frosting. :)

Long time no cake love... update

Its been a while, for this apologies. It has been a bit hectic here over the past few months. However I have been busy baking away, as always. Below are pictures of some of the cakes I have created since my last post. I'll try and keep more up to date. Next big cake project is my husbands birthday cake on Thursday.

PS- I am going to work on a few 'How to...' posts so watch this space. One will be posted on the next 2 weeks :)

Happy baking :)

1st birthdays come but once....

I was really happy when one of my oldest friends asked me to bake the cakes for his second daughter's 1st birthday. I love a challenge so with girly pink and purple things in mind I embraced the flower tea party theme and this is what I came up with....

The baking love is spreading...

I was in Morrisons today and noticed this magazine....
Of course I had to pick up a copy. As a hobby baker this magazine appeals to my creative side as it fills me with lots of ideas.

I have missed the first issue it seems. :( However, I am told it is possible to back order the 1st issue. I am also glad to see that the magazine will be published weekly (and more information on it can be found on the magazines' website, accessible by clicking here.) I will be looking out for this in my newsagents every week to get my cake fix.

You can also join in all the baking and magazine related chats here, via their Facebook page.

First birthdays and baby showers...

Its been a month of baby celebrations. This month saw us having a wonderful time at a baby shower for two close friends and my little man's 1st birthday. What better excuse did I need to go a bit crazy with the baking? It was a rare time when I got to do things all pink and girly for the shower so I also decided to make a cake for a lovely neighbour who shares he birthday with my son.

There where some themes for the cakes. For the baby shower I focused on All things baby and Pink, and for my son's birthday- The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Zoo Fun.

Without having to listen to me waffling any more here are the pictures of my creations :)

How to.... Apple Crumble Cupcakes

Welcome to my first 'How to...' guide. In this post I will let you know how I make my apple crumble cupcakes, in 10 simple steps. This will be in the form of a step by step guide with pictures to show you the processes.

1. Preheat oven to 180C/ 350F/ Gas mark 4 and line a muffin tin with cases. (I find this recipe makes about 12)

2. First make the topping by placing the following ingredients in a bowl. NOTE: cut the butter into smaller cubes to aid next step.
3. Rub the butter into the dry ingredients, either by hand or using a food processor, until it resembles fine bread crumbs. Set aside for later.

4. For the cupcakes you will need the following ingredients:
5. Mix the bicarbonate of soda into the jar of apple sauce, until dissolved.

6. Mix the butter and sugar. Once combined into a light and fluffy texture slowly add the egg.

7. Sift in the flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Using a large spoon fold into the mixture, gradually adding the apple sauce.

8. Spoon the mixture into the paper cases, topping with the crumble mixture made earlier. Press down gently.

9. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. One cooked transfer to a wire rack to cool.

10. Serve and enjoy. :)

Happy baking everyone :D
